I didn't purchase the professional version of Smithsonian Radar when I signed on for this job ten years ago (that's reserved for our Public Affairs department who scours newspapers and magazines for all coverage of our museum). However, I frequently find myself using the open source version when I come upon our name in the media.

So when perusing the August 13 issue of Newsweek at breakfast, I suddenly stopped at the bottom of page 57. Our Earl Cunningham's America exhibition, which runs through November 4, made this week's Tip Sheet sidebar as a "must see."

It's been so hot around here the last week but it's nice and cool in our galleries and the intense colors and exotic scenes of Cunningham's imaginary landscapes somehow look right in this weather. I've always said "There's nothing like a good art show to beat those dog days of summer!" Okay, I never really said that, but there is something to be said for opening a new exhibition in August!
